Tallow (or beef fat) is amazingly nutritive when consumed and/or applied to the skin! The fat composition of tallow is similar to that of human fat and is therefore easily absorbed and assimilated, on a cellular level. Tallow coming from organic, grass-fed, grass-finished beef contains a breadth of nutrients, not excluding the very important, fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K. Our cell membranes are comprised largely of fat, to which tallow can provide structural support! According to the Weston A. Price Foundation, because tallow is incredibly compatible with our cellular biology, and because it is well-absorbed by the skin, tallow balms do not leave your hands and body feeling greasy (this is our experience also)! You can therefore rub it all over your body and face! It is extremely softening.

You can find more information in the following article by the Weston A. Price Foundation:

Traditional Nourishing and Healing Skin Care

Disclaimer: the tallow used in this batch of balms was much harder than we were used to, thereby making for harder balms. Consider keeping the balm next to a warm heat source in order to soften it, or you can dig into it with the back of your thumb nail and warm it up in your hands before using!

We hope you feel nourished by our balms. Thank you so much for supporting us!

all balms were made in Davis, CA; ingredients sourced within Yolo County, with the exception of the essential oil blends. the amber glass jars used are lead-free.

we are committed to supporting local farmers and land stewards. all of the ingredients used are organically grown, none are certified organic. the essential oils are blended by a woman of color and pranic healer. the blends found in awaken, expand, create, and ground offer healing and support to the respective chakras: crown & third eye, heart, sacral, and root. we offer an unscented balm (clear).

we will soon be moving away from essential oils and towards oil infusions with wildcrafted/locally grown herbs in order to source local ingredients as much as possible, which too could mean that we will be replacing the olive oil for pasture-raised lard. (we will be coming out with a soothing balm infused with calendula, chamomile, and other herbs! for mamas and babes.) eventually we’d like to experiment with the French perfumery technique, enfleurage, which uses solid fat to capture the fragrance of a flower.
