Birth Consulting

I believe that a woman knows how to be pregnant and that she, with the help of her baby, knows how to give birth. Birthing is, most of the time, a safe and natural process; it is not an accident waiting to happen. We carry in our bones and our blood this wisdom, a lineage of wisdom that is as ancient as the first mammals to have walked this Earth.

With that being said, most of us do not grow up seeing and supporting birth, as did our ancestors. The culture, traditions, milieu, and even politics of birth are vastly different, and more importantly, the majority of us are disconnected from ourselves, our bodies, and from God. This, however, does not mean that our intuitive and instinctual impulses no longer exist or that we no longer have access to this wisdom. It only means that we, as a result of this evolution towards individualization and away from our spiritual nature, are less atavistic and therefore less able to immediately and fluidly source understanding from within. As birth, especially in the Western world, has become more complicated, technological, and private, it is not surprising that we seek guidance and support outside of ourselves. Whereas our great, great grandmothers would have been subsumed into guidance and support inherently, having had no shortage of women walking alongside them, we, in these modern times, are not as well-integrated into the process and experience of pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum.

I believe that women who are informed are women who are then able to make decisions that are true to them, intuitive, and strong. Normal, physiological pregnancy and birth are supported by a woman who is connected to herself and her truth, a woman is who trusting of her body and baby.
